W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Co.
W. R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company is one of America's oldest and finest cutlery manufacturers. The Case product line includes pocket, hunting, fishing, camping, and utility knives.
History
In 1905, Russ Case brought W.R. Case & Sons, the company he had founded with the help of his father William Russell Case, to Bradford, Pennsylvania. Russ’s family roots in cutlery ran deep. His uncles Jean, John, and Andrew Case operated Case Brothers Cutlery in Little Valley, New York, and were involved with their brother W.R. at Cattaraugus Cutlery prior to that. Russ Case led W.R. Case & Sons for nearly fifty years seeing the company through two World Wars and the Great Depression to become the dominant American cutlery manufacturer.
The Case family owned W.R. Case & Sons until 1972, when the company was sold to American Brands, a large U.S. conglomerate. Operations remained in Bradford. Knife entrepreneur James F. Parker purchased the company in 1988, and sold it to River Associates, a limited partnership group, in 1990. In May, 1993, Case was purchased by Bradford-based Zippo Manufacturing Company.
Today
Case manufactures classic American patterns of pocket knives such as the Peanut, Trapper, Stockman and Canoe using a broad selection of natural handle materials. In addition to natural stag, bone and various woods, the same patterns are also often made with durable synthetic handle materials.
In order to broaden market appeal, Case has created innovative products with high tech molded handles and sheaths, products that meet the demands of the consumer in both function and price.
Case knives are highly prized among collectors. They are among the most documented of any collectible knife, and a unique numbering system helps collectors identify the age and pattern of each knife. In fact, Case is the first choice of serious knife collectors worldwide.
The Case Collectors Club is the largest club of its type. Each year members are offered exclusive limited edition knives. Etched blades, special shields, and individual serial numbers make each year's knife distinctive. A special edition youth knife is also available to club members on an annual basis. Established in 1981, the club offers one year and lifetime memberships.
